MARANHÃO, April 23, 2024 – State deputy Yglésio Moyses (PRTB) announced on Tuesday (23) his intention to request the Court to revoke Maranhão Citizenship titles granted by the Legislative Assembly that violate the Internal Regulations of the House.
One of the names that could be affected by this measure is that of the vice-president of the Republic, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), honored at the end of last year.
The controversy surrounding the granting of these titles is due to the regulatory requirement that the person honored has resided for at least ten years in Maranhão.
This criterion was used by another deputy, Júlio Mendonça (PCdoB), to contest the title proposal for former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro (PL), and should be an argument by deputy Zé Inácio (PT) against honoring the former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) at the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) of the Maranhão Legislature.
Both proposals were authored by Yglésio Moyses.
Moyses defends equality in the treatment of honors and questions the granting of titles to people who do not meet the state’s residency requirements. He cites the case of Geraldo Alckmin and other honorees, such as Ricardo Capelli and even supposedly for Lula.
“The basis is treatment. Either it is isonomic, or the rule really cannot be applied to anyone. Why? Because the title was given to Geraldo Alckmin, who I understand never lived in Maranhão. Ricardo Capelli never stayed here for ten years, he spent far from that here in the state of Maranhão, he doesn’t have a permanent residence. They have even given the title there supposedly to Lula, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva […] So, when it comes to giving the title to Michel Bolsonaro, it passes through the CCJ, but does not come to the plenary. When it comes to giving the title to Bolsonaro, there is an emergency regime, and then it is in the hands of the PT deputy”, he declared.
The deputy clarifies that the legal action will be restricted to titles granted in this legislature and plans to file the action this week. “We are in the final stages of investigation and in the next 48 hours we will take action,” he said.
