This Sunday morning (5/5), Governor Eduardo Leite received the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. They flew over flooded areas of the Capital and the Metropolitan region and then met with ministers and state secretaries. The visit was accompanied by a delegation with members of the three branches of the federal government. In a press conference, Leite presented the current situation of the State and the need for a reconstruction plan.

The integrated rescue force for flood victims received reinforcements this Sunday, doubling the number of boats used by the Military Fire Department, increasing to 257 vehicles. In addition, the security forces fleet received an additional 526 vehicles. The number of personnel on the front line was also increased, reaching 4,991 soldiers and civilians.

On the first day of operations at the Vale do Rio Pardo Regional Donation Center, located at the University in Santa Cruz do Sul (Unisc), dozens of volunteers from Rio Grande do Sul and other parts of Brazil joined the State government teams, under the coordination of vice-governor Gabriel Souza, to organize and distribute supplies to residents of isolated areas in the region.

A channel to receive international donations was activated by the State government. People and organizations wishing to contribute will be able to transfer resources in Euros, Dollars and Pounds Sterling.

Meanwhile, the State published this Sunday (5) the decree that establishes the management committee of the SOS Rio Grande do Sul account. The group, made up of public and private entities, will be responsible for defining actions, measures and distribution criteria for donations destined to flood victims and raised by the channel’s pix key. From Thursday (2/5) until Sunday (5/5), R$38,167,189.02 were received through transfers made by both individuals and legal entities.

The State Civil Defense put into operation the Regional Donations Center, in Lajeado, in Vale do Taquari. Ready-made food, water and cleaning supplies will be collected on site. Also in the city, the Crisis Office for the Vale do Taquari microregion was set up, next to the Fire Department headquarters, to coordinate strategies to combat the tragedy and command the distribution of donations to 36 cities in the region.

Volunteers with boats and watercraft can help rescue flood victims. With this measure, the integrated forces expand their capacity to carry out rescues and evacuation from affected areas.

From now on, an interactive map will allow, in real time, monitoring of the situation of federal and state highways that are blocked due to heavy rains that caused damage in several cities in Rio Grande do Sul.

The Department of Education (Seduc) defined that State Network classes will return from next Tuesday (7/5) for students from the following Regional Education Coordinators: Uruguaiana (10th); Osório (11th); Erechim (15th); Rio Grande (18th); Palmeira das Missões (20th); Três Passos (21st); São Luiz Gonzaga (32nd); São Borja (35th) and Ijuí (36th).
