The government of Mato Grosso do Sul released a special notice with a budget of R$6 million that will be allocated specifically for research into climate change in the state. The amount will be administered by the Foundation for Supporting the Development of Education, Science and Technology (Fundect-MS).

The million-dollar amount aims to finance technologies, products, processes, services, public policies and other assets that contribute to mitigating the impacts of changes in temperature and climate patterns.

For Fundect’s CEO, Márcio Pereira, climate change represents one of the biggest concerns today, with important effects on ecosystems, societies and economies around the world.

“Science can help us mitigate the impacts caused by the increased frequency and intensity of extreme climate events, mainly on biodiversity, food and water security and social and economic inequalities. Our State today aims to be green, sustainable and inclusive , which is why Fundect created this notice that meets these objectives, tackling global warming. I am sure that the work carried out here will be a national difference”, explains Pereira.

The expectation is to include up to 45 projects, with maximum values per proposal ranging from R$200 thousand to R$400 thousand. Research themes cover urban development, green industry, energy transition, environment and regional biodiversity.

Researchers linked to Scientific and Technological Institutions (ICTs) and Universities in Mato Grosso do Sul can participate. Interested parties can submit proposals to the notice until May 13, 2024.
