Bus collapse on BR-116, in MG, leaves four dead, including a 52-year-old from Alagoas

A tragedy shocked family and friends of a 52-year-old woman from Alagoas, identified as Giselda Marques dos Santos, who was one of the fatal victims of a bus overturning that occurred last Saturday (27) on a stretch of BR-116, located in Vale do Jequitinhonha, in Minas Gerais. The accident resulted in the deaths of four people and injured 32 others.

Giselda, born in the municipality of Murici, in the interior of Alagoas, was among the 53 people who were on board a tourist bus that left Caruaru, in Pernambuco, heading to the capital of São Paulo. The trip, which was supposed to last 34 hours, was interrupted after 17 hours of travel, when the driver of the vehicle lost control, colliding with a protective wall on the side of the road, hitting the shoulder and ending up overturning on the road. The location of the accident is known as “death curve”.

In addition to Giselda, three other fatal victims were identified: Severina Gomes de Oliveira, aged 70, born in Rio de Janeiro, Mauro Sérgio da Silva, aged 42, born in Capoeiras, in Pernambuco, and Maria Amanda Menezes da Silva, born in 29 years old, born in Águas Belas, also in Pernambuco.

The Civil Police will investigate the causes of the accident, and both the driver and witnesses will be interviewed in the coming days to clarify the facts. The tragedy moved the region and raised questions about safety on Brazilian roads, especially on stretches known for recurring accidents such as the “death curve” where this terrible incident occurred. The family and friends of Giselda Marques dos Santos are now facing the grief and pain of losing a loved one in such a sudden and tragic way.
