The Parliamentary Front for Family Agriculture, Agroecology and Renewable Energy of the Legislative Assembly of Paraíba (ALPB) held a meeting, on the afternoon of this Monday (29), together with the Environment and Tourism Commission of the Legislative Assembly of Santa Catarina, to present a proposal to hold a meeting of the Parliamentary Fronts and Environmental Committees of all Legislative Assemblies in Brazil.

The meeting took place at the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB) and was proposed by the president of the Commission, deputy Cida Ramos. “The objective of this meeting is to discuss projects in defense of the environment. It is essential that we can articulate the Legislative action in the area of the environment. Protecting our fauna, protecting our wealth and natural resources is a task in Paraíba and throughout Brazil”, highlighted the parliamentarian.

Cida highlighted the need to discuss the impact of renewable energy on the environment and the importance of the contribution of the university and other segments of society. She also mentioned articulation with solid waste collectors in defense of the environment and life.

The president of the Environment Committee of the Assembly of Santa Catarina, Marcos José Abreu (Deputy Marquito), highlighted the need to exchange experiences and highlighted cooperation between the Legislative Assemblies. “Our mandate is guided by agroecology, so we have some actions similar to Congresswoman Cida’s mandate, and we came to exchange experiences. I’m bringing here some laws and projects from Santa Catarina and I want to hear and learn about those that are applied here in Paraíba, in addition to talking to social movements and UFPB professors who provide theoretical and scientific support in defending the environment, he said.

Professor Ricardo Figueiredo, from UFPB, highlighted the importance of exchanging experiences between the Legislative Assembly and the university. “We understand that the University and the Assemblies cannot stay away from these issues, and have not been in several sectors, but especially we who form the union, and the working group related to this environmental, urban and agricultural issue, have to always be participating constantly,” he said.

The meeting was also attended by the councilor of João Pessoa, Marcos Henriques; of professors from UFPB, Aduf’s PAUA Working Group, social movements and entities involved with the environment.
