Tocantins News – Tocantins has just registered more than 355 megawatts of installed power in its own solar energy generation. According to data from the Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association (ABSOLAR), the state has more than 34 thousand operational solar energy connections on rooftops and small plots of land, spread across 139 cities, or 100% of the region’s municipalities. There are currently more than 42 thousand electricity consumers who already have reduced electricity bills, greater autonomy and electrical reliability.

The installed power of solar energy distributed in Tocantins places the state in twentieth position in the ABSOLAR national ranking. Since 2012, the modality has enabled Tocantins to attract R$1.8 billion in investments, generate more than 10,000 jobs and raise R$400 million to public coffers.

For Ronaldo Koloszuk, president of the Board of Directors of ABSOLAR, the advancement of solar energy in the country is fundamental for the social, economic and environmental development of Brazil and helps to diversify the country’s electricity supply, reducing pressure on water resources and the risk of a red flag occurring on the population’s electricity bill.

“The state of Tocantins is currently an important center for the development of solar energy. Photovoltaic technology represents enormous potential for generating jobs and income, attracting private investment and collaborating in the fight against climate change”comments.

According to ABSOLAR’s CEO, Rodrigo Sauaia, the growth of own solar energy generation strengthens Brazil’s sustainability and international protagonism, relieves family budgets and increases the competitiveness of Brazilian productive sectors.

“The solar source is a lever for the country’s development. In particular, we have an immense opportunity to use technology in social programs, such as popular houses under the Minha Casa Minha Vida program, in the universalization of access to electricity through the Luz para Todos program , as well as its use in public buildings, such as schools, hospitals, health centers, police stations, libraries, museums, parks, among others, helping to reduce government spending on electricity so that they have more resources to invest in health, education, public security and other priorities of Brazilian society”concludes Sauaia.
