Man arrested after attacking people with sword near London subway

-

36-year-old man was arrested. A witness says the suspect tried to break into a house before he was caught. “He tried to get into one of the houses but couldn’t and that’s when they shocked him. I’ve never seen anything like that before,” Manpreet Singh told Radio 5 Live.

Police say the case is not related to terrorism. “We do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the broader community. We are not looking for additional suspects. This incident does not appear to be terrorism-related.”

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak lamented the attack. “This is a shocking incident. My thoughts are with those affected and their families. This violence has no place on our streets.”

Last week, Sunak criticized the London mayor’s security policy, on the eve of municipal elections scheduled for this Thursday (2).

Knife and sword attacks are on the rise in the UK. According to official data, last year they increased by 7%, to almost 50 thousand, in England and Wales. In London, they increased by 20%, with 14,577 attacks recorded, returning to pre-coronavirus pandemic levels.
