This Monday (1st), on its first working day of operation, the travel time of the BRT Transbrasil corridor, departing from Terminal Deodoro, West Zone of Rio, to Terminal Gentileza, Centro, it was 50 minutes on a trip made by RJ1 in the morning. The vehicle stops at all 17 stations along Avenida Brasil.

In the lanes for private vehicles, in the morning, there was congestion from Irajá to the Transolímpica exit, in Magalhães Bastos. West Zone of Rio. Those leaving Baixada Fluminense also faced a long traffic jam. The journey from Caxias to the center of Rio took up to 2 hours.

The rate of fines for disrespecting the corridor’s operating rules was considered high compared to the test days: 887 fines until 8:30 am. The vehicles were fined for exceeding the speed limit of 60 km/h in the exclusive BRT lane and 40 km/h at the stations.

The difference is big, compared to the record from previous days: there were 1718 infractions on the 30th and 1340 fines on the 31st of March.

Katiane, a passenger who used line 393, Bangu x Candelária, started using line 10 (Santa Cruz x Alvorada (Expresso) and stated that she had a positive surprise with the transport. “I find it very peaceful and I thought it would be worse”, reports.

Using the same line this Monday morning, the resident of Deodoro Janaína managed to leave her home later to head to Botafogo. Before, she was stuck in traffic for a long time. “I used to catch the bus at 10am and today I caught it at 11:40am. That’s exactly why I forgot to put the headphones on my ear to listen to a little song and forget that at some point we’ll arrive. I also save time so I can take care of something inside my house. before leaving for work”, he jokes.

The average travel time at the beginning of the day was estimated at 40 minutes. Transbrasil is scheduled to operate from 10am to 3pm every day of the week.

The Transbrasil express corridor is 26 kilometers long, has 17 stations, crosses 18 neighborhoods and is expected to transport 250,000 people per day by 2030.

This is the fourth BRT corridor implemented in the city, expanding the high-capacity transport system, which already operates with the Transoeste, Transcarioca and Transolímpica corridors.

Segregated BRT rail on Avenida Brasil

Another new feature on Avenida Brasil is the delimitation of the left lane of the selective road, exclusively for BRTs, using segregators. The lane on the right of the selective road can be used by buses, service vehicles and taxis.

This rule applies to every day of the week. To ensure safety when overtaking express BRTs near stations, the selective lane will be segregated with studs. On single-lane stretches, only buses and BRTs will be allowed.
