Mato Grosso’s economy in 2023 grew 10.6%, that is, three times more than Brazil (2.9%). This is what the Banco do Brasil Regional Review report, released this month, points out.

“This is the result of our hard-working people, the strength of our companies and the actions of the Government of Mato Grosso, which has carried out hundreds of works and actions and built an environment that attracts more and more investments and jobs”, highlighted Governor Mauro Mendes , highlighting that this reflects an effort towards fiscal consolidation and more rigorous financial management policies, implemented from 2019 onwards.

According to the survey, Mato Grosso leads the ranking in the Central-West region and had the second highest economic growth in the country, behind only Tocantins, which recorded an 11.1% increase in GDP.

“Since the beginning of the administration, we have promoted changes in the State’s fiscal policy aiming to reach this moment of economic development that we have been experiencing since 2021. The Banco do Brasil report pointed out, based on monitoring state economic indicators, that the state’s good performance was mainly driven by agricultural production, which increased the state’s agricultural GDP by 23.4% last year.

Mato Grosso reached a record grain harvest in 2023, with more than 45.3 million tons of soybeans in the 2022/2023 harvest and 52.3 million tons of corn.

The state also leads in cattle breeding, with more than 34.1 million heads, according to the Mato Grosso Agricultural Defense Institute (Indea). The survey also identified Mato Grosso as one of the states that grew the most in industry and services.

The GDP of Mato Grosso’s industry was the biggest national growth, with an increase of 6% in 2023. The performance was three times greater than that of the country, which registered an increase of 1.6% last year.

Mato Grosso’s services GDP grew 7.2%, being the second biggest increase in the country. The state was second only to Tocantins, which increased by 9.2% in 2023.
