Seidl updates situation for Audi debut in 2026

Audi will make its debut in Formula 1 in 2026, when it will fully take over Sauber (Stake F1 Team). Andreas Seidl, CEO of the team, spoke about the project’s stage and adopted a realistic tone regarding the initial ambitions.

“We are on the right track,” Seidl told Auto, Motor und Sport. The manager highlighted the progress at the headquarters in Neuburg, where the infrastructure and team began to be assembled in 2022 by Audi Formula Racing GmbH. Testing of engine components began in 2023.

Currently, the team structure is practically operational. “Combined with the new 2026 regulations, we will have the ideal conditions for a consistent debut as a factory team,” said Seidl.

The renewed regulations for 2026 place Audi in an unprecedented scenario. However, this does not mean an immediate advantage, according to Seidl. “We need to be realistic. It is clear that manufacturers already established in the category have an advantage. This is not just about technical details, but also about operational processes.”

The signing of German Nico Hülkenberg to Sauber, for 2025, was recently announced. “Considering our current level, it is essential to have the best combination of drivers possible. Therefore, Nico is a top choice. His speed is unquestionable. Furthermore, his experience, team spirit and great technical understanding are exactly what we need,” concluded Seidl.

It is worth remembering that Carlos Sainz, currently at Ferrari, but without a contract for next year, is the main candidate for the vacancy alongside Hulkenberg, but so far there is nothing confirmed regarding the Spanish driver.
