The Santa Catarina State Research and Innovation Support Foundation (Fapesc) participated in the programming of the Workshop on Intellectual Property and Project Mentoring, this Wednesday, 24th, in Xanxerê. The event took place on the campus of the University of the West of Santa Catarina (Unoesc), and brought together approximately 100 researchers, administrative technicians from the Controllership and Project Office sectors and scholarship holders from the university campuses in Xanxerê, Chapecó, Joaçaba, Videira and São Miguel do West.

Fapesc’s participation occurred following an invitation from Unoesc management. Topics such as the foundation’s work, new scholarship policies for master’s, doctoral and post-doctoral degrees, research in Science, Technology and Innovation, structure of an innovation proposal, project evaluation, mapping, funding opportunities via public call notice and accountability were addressed by managers and coordinators of Fapesc Technical Scientific Projects.

For Fapesc’s director of Science, Technology and Innovation, Valeska Tratsk, Fapesc’s mentoring aimed to bring important information to the work of professors, researchers and technicians at the university. “It was a moment of great exchange of knowledge to enable professionals who participate in Fapesc notices to register projects that are increasingly able to receive resources via notice. May these deliveries carried out by researchers with the support of the State Government become a product, a process, a project or a public policy that contributes to the state and the people of Santa Catarina”, says Valeska.

The rector of Unoesc, Ricardo Antônio de Marco, highlights that the event was an opportunity to bring together a large part of the institution’s researchers, thinking about the qualification of projects so that the capillarity of the research carried out can be further expanded. “The institutions are receiving a lot of encouragement from the State Government, which is transforming the regions. We understand that this is vital for the development of research and helping to secure researchers in the region. It attracts students, these students are able to have good projects and these projects turn into good deliveries that result in the transformation of society”, he reinforces.

The Pro-Rector of Research, Postgraduate Studies, Extension and Innovation at Unoesc, Kurt Schneider states that the workshop came from the desire to prepare the university’s researchers to participate in public notices and prepare their publications and their knowledge in an indexed way so that it can be accessed by funding bodies and international partnerships. “The event was designed to listen, dialogue, question and resolve doubts about the notices about the opportunities offered by Fapesc, which is in a movement to place Santa Catarina on the national and international map of high-level scientific productions”.

For the vice-rector of Unoesc’s Videira campus, Carla Fabiana Cazella, the workshop strengthened the partnership between the foundation and the university. “Fapesc has been a unique body for educational institutions. Speaking specifically about the Videira campus, the foundation provides us, through notices, with an improvement mainly in research and research equipment. With the projects that we managed to raise funds, we showed the internal and external community the power of this support in expanding teaching and training our own teachers”, she comments.

Project mentoring

Throughout the workshop, participants were able to learn more about the stages of a project, how proposals submitted in Fapesc notices are evaluated and the structure of a proposal. For Fapesc’s Science and Research Manager, Larissa Waskow, the workshop brought Fapesc even closer to researchers. “We were able to clarify issues regarding the evolution of processes, internationalization, the way in which notices are prepared and the main points to be observed when writing a project. With this information, researchers are able to develop proposals with a better scope, the results of which can be taken to the entire Santa Catarina ecosystem.”

Still in the project area, researchers were able to reflect on the importance of scientometrics, which involves quantitative studies of scientific activities, including publications of articles, dissertations and theses. “The application of global and national scientometrics to foster integrated and stronger actions in science, technology and innovation (CTI) has been fundamental for Fapesc to be able to listen, understand and meet the development challenges that the state needs in the area of STI” , highlights Fapesc’s Planning and Strategic Programs advisor, Marcos Oliveira.

The workshop also included a dialogue between participants on accountability with the coordinators of Technical Scientific Projects from the Accountability Management, Barbara Heidrich Seibert Koettker, and from the Purchasing and Tenders Management, Leonardo José de Oliveira. During the event, Fapesc managers received the Intellectual Property Guide – Creative Minds, Protected Rights, developed by Unoesc, with the support of Fapesc.

The event was also attended by the president of the Fundação Universidade do Oeste de Santa Catarina (Funoesc) and vice-rector of the Xanxerê campus of Unoesc, Genésio Téo.
