Exclusive: Fantastic interviews Erika Souza, who became known as the niece who took her dead uncle to the bank

Two weeks after being arrested for attempting to take out a loan with the corpse of Paulo Roberto Braga, Erika de Souza Vieira Nunes was released by the courts. She left Bagu prison last Thursday (2) and claimed, in an interview with Fantástico, that she does not remember the moment she took her uncle Paulo to the bank attendants.

“I can’t remember much. I don’t know if it was the effect of the medicine that day,” he said.

Erika said she is undergoing psychiatric treatment. Reports shown by Fantástico showed that she is dependent on sedatives, has depression, suicidal thoughts and auditory hallucinations. Find out more here.

“As I undergo treatment, I took Zolpidem. Sometimes I took more than I should.”

The images show that Erika entered the bank branch holding her uncle’s head. She says that she talked to Paulo at that moment. “I asked if I would be better off holding [a cabeça] and he said yes.”

The woman even said she didn’t realize her uncle was dead. “Neither I nor many people noticed. How do you give a paper to a dead person to sign?”

Before going to the bank, Paulo Roberto spent a week in a state health unit. She took him to take out the loan on the same day he was discharged, but was informed that the withdrawal was at another branch.

“I thought he would get better because it was just pneumonia.”

This week, the Public Ministry denounced Erika and stated that she acted consciously, voluntarily and demonstrated total contempt and disrespect for Paulo Roberto.

Judge Luciana Mocco accepted the MP’s complaint and Erika became a defendant for attempted embezzlement and vilification of a corpse, which is the act of belittling a dead person.

The magistrate revoked the preventive detention, claiming that Erika is a primary defendant, has a fixed residence and does not pose a risk to public order while free. The judge also reported that Erika has poor mental health and needs to take care of her minor daughter who has special needs.
