Soybean harvest 23/24 will be 6.5% bigger in Mato Grosso do Sul

According to information from the SIGA-MS project, as of 03/22/2024, the soybean harvest for the 2023/2024 harvest reached 87.3% of the total area in Mato Grosso do Sul. The harvest is estimated to be 6.5% larger in relation to the previous cycle (2022/2023), reaching an area of ​​4.265 million hectares. The estimated productivity is 54 sc/ha. The average number of bags per hectare is within the productive potential observed in the last 5 harvests in the state. This generates an expected production of 13.818 million tons.

Crop conditions in MS

All regions of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul have crops between the R5 stage (beginning of grain filling) and R8 (full maturity). The west, north, northeast and southwest regions presented mostly good conditions, varying between 70% and 86.5%, with regular conditions between 5.5% and 20.1% and a small percentage of poor conditions, up to 9.3 %. However, the south, southeast, south-border and center regions present conditions that do not reach the potential of the other regions, with poor conditions varying between 14.7% and 34.9%, fair conditions between 13.1% and 39. 2% and good conditions between 40.9% and 66.5%.

Percentage of harvested area

The percentage of area harvested in the 2023/2024 harvest is 7.7 percentage points higher than the 2022/2023 harvest, as of March 22.

Corn

The estimate is that the harvest will be 5.82% smaller compared to the previous cycle (2022/2023), reaching an area of ​​2.218 million hectares. Production is estimated at 11.4 million tons, a drop of 19.23%, and productivity is forecast at 86.3 bags per hectare, a drop of 14.25%. The percentage of area planted in the 2nd harvest 2023/2024 is 11.5 percentage points higher than the 2nd harvest 2022/2023, for March 22nd.

What will the weather be like in MS over the next few days?

The entire state of Mato Grosso do Sul remains sunny this Good Friday. In the north of the state, clouds increase in the morning with slightly higher temperatures in the afternoon. In these areas there are some isolated rain showers with lightning, locally strong, but without warnings. The south of Mato Grosso do Sul remains without rain. On Saturday, the weather forecast does not change.

On Easter Sunday, the sun appears throughout the state and it is only expected to rain in the east. In other areas, sun and isolated rain showers with lightning in the afternoon. On Monday (01/04), a low pressure system will contribute to the formation of a lot of instability in the south of the state and rain will occur at any time, sometimes heavy. In other producing areas, the sun appears between clouds with conditions for isolated rain showers with lightning.
