The Civil Police of Mato Grosso transferred to Cuiabá, this Thursday (28.03), the perpetrator of the double homicide that occurred inside a popular shopping center, in November last year, in the capital.

SJP, 36 years old, was arrested by a team from the Cuiabá Homicide and Personal Protection Police Station in the city of Uberlândia, in Minas Gerais, last Monday (25). With support from the Integrated Public Security Air Operations Center (Ciopaer), he was returned to the capital of Mato Grosso.

In a press conference this Thursday, the delegate responsible for the investigations, Nilson André Farias, detailed the arrest and highlighted that the perpetrator of the crimes confessed to having received R$10,000 for the murder of businessman Gersino Rosa dos Santos. The other victim, Cleyton de Oliveira de Souza Paulino, was hit at the time of the execution, by the same shot.

“We reached this perpetrator of the crime after a complaint that provided us with some data that made identification possible, as, until then, we did not have any qualifications of the perpetrator. With the support of the Civil Police of Minas Gerais, we were able to obtain other information and from there we represented the temporary arrest, which was carried out this week”, he explained.

During the interrogation, carried out at the Uberlândia Homicide Police Station, the perpetrator of the murder explained that he had never previously been to Mato Grosso, and came to the state only to carry out the murder. He stated that, after the crime, he returned by bus to his hometown, Uberlândia, where he received the agreed amount and handed over the weapon, a 9mm caliber pistol, to whoever hired him.

“He had high debts and needed money, so he accepted the co-optation made by a known person, also from Uberlândia, to carry out the crime. According to him, it was the first time he had committed a crime of this magnitude. The author is not a professional executor and the images evaluated in the investigation show that moments before he became insecure about carrying out the crime”, added police chief Nilson Farias.

After his transfer to Cuiabá, SJP was presented at a custody hearing with the Capital Police Inquiry Center, to be designated in which prison unit he will be held.

Police chief Nilson Farias pointed out that the investigation is now moving on to the second phase, which involves gathering information to reach the others involved in the crime, who acted as intermediaries and principals.

“From now on, everything is a possibility, in the investigative line, to clarify the motivation, be it possible involvement with organized crime, passion or linked to cigarette smuggling. Nothing will be ruled out in this investigation,” he stated.

The crime

Gersino Rosa, aged 43, and Cleyton Paulino, aged 27, were murdered on November 23, inside Shopping Popular, in the Dom Aquino neighborhood, in Cuiabá.

Since the homicides were recorded, DHPP has carried out numerous investigative steps to identify the perpetrator of the crime and also determine his whereabouts.

The investigations showed that the target of the executor was the trader Gersino, owner of an electronic products stand in the shopping center. The victim Cleyton Paulino was an employee of another store in the mall. The second victim was hit during Gersino’s execution, with the same shot.

Shortly after the homicides were recorded, the DHPP team located a white t-shirt near the shopping center, worn by the perpetrator of the crime, as shown on security camera circuit images.

The t-shirt was found during a sweep near the shopping mall to identify the escape routes used by the criminal. She was abandoned by the suspect in an attempt to mislead the search for the shooter.
