PM beats woman who attacked her 11-year-old daughter

A military police officer was filmed slapping a 27-year-old woman in the face in the city of Vitória de Santo Antão, in Mata Norte of Pernambuco. The attack happened after the police saw marks of beatings on the body of an 11-year-old child, the woman’s daughter. (see video above).

Videos sent to WhatsApp from TV Globo show neighbors taking care of the girl, who had several bruises on her arms and legs. The group took the girl to João Murilo de Oliveira Hospital, also in Vitória de Santo Antão, and contacted the Military Police and the city’s Child Protection Council.

The mother allegedly hit the girl because she was woken up by the fight between two other children who were playing video games, according to counselor Alzenir Vasconcelos, who followed the case.

According to the Military Police, upon arriving at the health unit, the agents noticed that the mother refused to let the child get out of the car using an app that was requested by neighbors to help the child. According to the PM, the woman was restrained, arrested and taken to the Vitória Police Station.

According to the images of the approach, the police beat the woman in the face when she noticed the bruises on the girl’s body. The mother’s face was blurred by the g1 to preserve the child’s identity.

“Did you do this? You were the one who did that to her, weren’t you? Okay, you don’t like hitting, right? Don’t you like hitting? Don’t you like it?”, said the police officer during the approach.

In a statement, the Military Police said that “it opened an investigation to determine the circumstances of the police approach and take the necessary measures”.

Wanted by g1, the Civil Police said that the woman was caught in the act for “bodily injury due to domestic/family violence”. After the administrative procedures, she was sent to a custody hearing, remaining at the disposal of the Court. As her name was not disclosed, it was not possible to consult the results of the hearing.

The Vitória de Santo Antão Guardianship Council, as well as the Military Police, were called by neighbors who provided assistance to the child. The mother, before accompanying the child to the hospital, was filmed arguing with the group because of the intrusion.

“So worried about her health now, huh? Because no one comes to ask how my life is going here at home. Then when I do ‘a deal’ like this with my daughter, a neighbor, parrot, parakeet comes to help. Don’t worry”.

In conversation with the g1counselor Alzenir Vasconcelos confirmed that the Guardianship Council was contacted by the people and social assistance at João Murilo de Oliveira hospital.

Despite there being no record of previous complaints, the counselor stated that the girl said she had suffered attacks before. In this case, the mother would have been angry at having been woken up by a fight between the girl’s two younger brothers.

“The child has two other brothers and they had started fighting over a video game. She went to break up this fight, she went to separate the brothers and the mother wanted to sleep. She woke up, changed and started hitting her”, said the counselor.

According to Alzenir, the council was called at around 3:30 pm and remained with the girl until 11 pm, when she was delivered safely outside the city. As she was a child, no details were released about the location or who welcomed her.

“The child was covered in bruises, a little weak, having difficulty walking, with dislocations in his arm. She was evaluated by the orthopedist and pediatrician at the emergency unit. Soon after, she was discharged and became the responsibility of the Guardianship Council,” she explained.
