Bahia registers 12.4 thousand new formal jobs in March

The state of Bahia recorded a positive balance of 12,482 new formal jobs in the month of March 2024. The numbers are the result of 86,774 admissions and 74,292 dismissals in the period. In the Northeast region, Bahians ended March with the highest number of people with a formal contract. In the month, across the region, 16,037 jobs were created.

Data from the General Register of Employed and Unemployed People (Novo Caged) were released this Tuesday, April 30, by the Ministry of Labor and Employment (MTE). In Bahia, the result was positive in all five major sectors of the economy evaluated in the month. The highlight in Bahia was the Services sector, with a balance of 8,155 jobs. The Industry recorded the creation of 1,580 vacancies. Next come Agriculture (+1,475), Commerce (+950) and Construction (+323).

In the division by municipalities, the capital Salvador had the largest number of hires, with 3,595 new positions with a formal contract. In the group of five cities with the highest balance, Feira de Santana (+1,040), Lauro de Freitas (+965), Barreiras (+702) and Luís Eduardo Magalhães (+617) appear. In March, the number of people with formal employment in Bahia reached 2.07 million.

In the state, the majority of new jobs were occupied by men (+6,872). People with complete secondary education were the main ones served (+9,659) with vacancies in Bahia. Young people between 18 and 24 years old are also the group with the highest vacancy balance: +7,038.

NATIONAL — In March, Brazil registered a balance of 244,315 new formal jobs, the result of a positive economic scenario, marked by falling interest rates and inflation, massive federal investments in infrastructure works, a growing automobile sector and tourism activity in expansion, among others.

As a result, in 15 months, from January 2023 to March 2024, 2.18 million formal jobs have already been created in Brazil, of which 1.64 million were opened in the last 12 months. The Novo Caged data was presented this Tuesday, April 30th.

ACCUMULATED YEAR — In the first three months of 2024, Brazil added 719,033 new formal jobs, 34% more compared to the same period in 2023, when 536,869 thousand new jobs were registered in January, February and March.

The more than 244 thousand formal jobs registered in March this year represent an increase of 49.1 thousand jobs in relation to the numbers from March 2023, when the balance was positive at 195.1 thousand jobs.

REGIONS — All five regions of the country registered a positive balance in March. The Southeast Region was the highlight, having created 148,304 new formal positions. The South appears next, with 42,240, followed by the Central-West, with 28,047; by the Northeast, with 16,037; and in the North, where 9,670 new jobs were opened with a formal contract.

STATES — Of the 27 Federation Units, 25 showed a positive balance in job creation in March. Five states stood out for having opened more than 15 thousand new jobs. São Paulo leads the list, with 76,941 new formal jobs in the month. Next come Minas Gerais (40,796), Rio de Janeiro (24,466), Paraná (17,858) and Goiás (15,742). At the opposite end of the states with a positive balance and which registered less than a thousand new jobs are Tocantins (977), Roraima (632), Amapá (277) and Paraíba (263). Only Alagoas (-9,589) and Sergipe (-1,875) closed March with a negative balance.
