The decision was taken after an examination carried out today. The company that won the bid to repair the elevators withdrew from the contract citing “internal difficulties in fulfilling the stipulated obligations”.

The current administration held those responsible for the construction of the Minas and Gerais buildings in 2010. The Executive headquarters was designed, built and inaugurated during the administration of Aécio Neves in the government of Minas (2003-2010). Activities at Palácio Tiradentes and the Alterosas building are maintained under the management of Romeu Zema.

“The measure is inevitable given the sequence of problems arising from the negligence and poor construction of the buildings, opened in 2010. The current management is adopting all necessary measures to investigate the causes of the defects found in the elevators and hold those involved accountable,” he said. the government through a statement.

In November 2023, a 66-year-old public servant died while climbing 13 floors due to an electrical failure in the elevators.

An expert report that inspected the elevators pointed out that, during the construction of the headquarters of the Executive Branch of Minas Gerais, the metal pillars of the elevators’ counterweights were not anchored according to the project. This resulted in an empty space between the reinforced concrete beam and the column fixing plates. Therefore, it is necessary to reinforce all the metal pillars of the elevator counterweights.
