Chapter 103 – Monday, April 29
After the meeting at Manoel’s warehouse, everyone concludes that Araruna has no other political leader other than the Baron. The police chief releases the Captain and orders his men to say that he escaped. The Baron asks Bastião why Ricardo went to the farm. He replies that he doesn’t know.
The Captain looks for the trail of Justino and Fulgêncio. Tobias, one of the black people from Quilombo, tells Justino and Fulgêncio that it was Dimas who took the other slaves there and invites them to live in Quilombo. Fontes is outraged to learn that the Captain escaped.
Mário tells Augusto and Dimas that he heard that Brother do Quilombo released the Captain. Justino tells Fulgêncio that he is going to take Adelaide to Quilombo. Dimas states that he does not believe in the possibility of Brother do Quilombo having freed the Captain.
Frei José talks to Nina and Ana about the preparations for the wedding and gives a beautiful speech about love, leaving them in awe. Fontes and Augusto ask Dimas if he released the Captain. He says no, but they both remain suspicious.
Inez is worried when Justo tells her about the Captain’s escape. The delegate reaffirms the order to say that it was Brother do Quilombo who released the Captain. Adelaide is scared to death when she hears a knock on her door, thinking it is Justino. But Ana comes in asking to wash and iron her trousseau.
Tobias asks Justino what he will do if Adelaide doesn’t want to come with him. The Captain enters the lands that are part of Quilombo and announces that he is at peace. Virginia is worried when Bastião states that the Baron asked the reason for Ricardo’s visit to the farm.
