This Thursday (28), the opening of an administrative procedure was announced to investigate the situation of three children, aged 2, 5 and 7, in São Gabriel do Oeste, 133 kilometers from Campo Grande. Parents did not enroll their children in school and were also avoiding vaccinations.

According to information from the survey, the investigation is about the risk that children experience, as they were not enrolled in the public or private education system. There is also suspicion of refusal on the part of parents to administer mandatory vaccines to their children.

The complaint was made by the Guardianship Council. Thus, in a letter sent to the MPMS (Public Ministry of Mato Grosso do Sul) it was pointed out that the parents had opted for “a more natural life”, which is why they did not apply the vaccines.

“The unit’s health agent reports that she has already carried out several visits and guidance for the mother and that she even reported that she would inform the Guardianship Council about the violation of the children’s right to health, but she didn’t care saying that she researched and that she had the right to choose not to give vaccines”, says an excerpt from the complaint.

So, the Child Protection Council went to the family’s home. The mother would have been very determined and resistant, without showing concern when she learned that the facts would be communicated to the MPMS.

Home classes

Following the investigation, São Gabriel do Oeste City Hall was notified and made a report on the case. In October 2023, the family was visited by a team. Then, the mother reported that the children study at home, and she teaches the classes.

This would have happened because the school bus ran too early and the children were left unattended, said the mother. There was also no monitor on the bus, making it impossible to limit the mess inside the vehicle.

Regarding vaccines, the Municipal Health Department announced that doses are delayed. However, during the home visit it was identified that the children’s vaccination records have records that are not included in the Secretariat’s system.

Family income is approximately R$2,000. As the children are in a situation of dropping out of school, the family is unable to receive aid from the Federal Government, Bolsa Família.
