Bia Ferreira defeats Argentine and becomes world champion in professional boxing

After being two-time world champion in Olympic boxing, the time has come for Bia Ferreira to conquer the world as a professional. On Saturday afternoon, the Brazilian defeated Argentine Yanina Del Carmen Lescano, in Liverpool, in the fight for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) belt. The fight was stopped in the sixth round because the Brazilian’s opponent was bleeding too much and the fight was ended.

With the victory, Bia Ferreira took the first step towards achieving the ambitious goal she set for 2024. She wants to be the first in history to be world champion in professional boxing and win an Olympic medal in the same year. In July, she will compete in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games as the favorite for gold in the under 60 kg category.

“I’m very happy. I reached my goal, but the fight didn’t go as we planned. Now the goal is to be Olympic champion. And I promise that the next fight will be better than this one”, said Bia Ferreira, who didn’t like it very much. of his performance, especially in the first three of the six rounds of the fight.

The fight

The first round was mostly studying, but Lescano ended up getting the better of the exchange of blows. At halftime, coach Mateus Alves caught the Brazilian’s attention. “Play lower [da linha de cintura] and be more attentive in defense”, he warned.

Bia Ferreira came back better in the second round, landing a good follow-up on her opponent and a strong left to the chin. After another scolding from the coach, Bia Ferreira continued the fight. With hard blows to the waistline, the Brazilian realized what the Argentine was feeling and went for it. In the fifth round, the dominance was complete and she made Yanina Del Carmen Lescano’s eyebrow bleed.

In the sixth round, Beatriz Ferreira again punished her opponent, who began to bleed profusely. Because of this, the fight was stopped and, after analyzing Lescano’s condition, the referee decided to end the fight and award the first belt of her career to the Brazilian.
