Records of same-sex marriages and divorces increased, while birth records fell in Pernambuco.

The data was released this Wednesday (27), by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

According to IBGE, Pernambuco recorded 405 same-sex marriages in 2022.

This represents an increase of 12.8% compared to the previous year.

Also according to IBGE, there were 133 marriages between male spouses (33%) and 272 between female spouses (67%).

In Pernambuco, around 42,100 civil marriages were registered in general, in registry offices. This number represents a drop of 1,988 unions between 2021 and 2022.

The Civil Registry Statistics survey reported 15,524 divorces carried out in 2022, in the State, representing an increase of 7.3% compared to 2021 (14,459).

It was possible to analyze that the majority of reported divorces occurred among families made up of minor children (43.6%), followed by families without children (31.3%).

According to IBGE, there was a drop in the number of birth registrations for 2022 in Pernambuco.

The number fell from 123,552 (2021) to 116,059 (2022).

In Brazil, this drop was 3.5% in the same year and only the states of Santa Catarina (with 2.0%) and Mato Grosso (with 1.8%) showed growth.

March and May 2022 were the months with the most birth records in Pernambuco.

The largest number of records, made by the census, show that the month of May 2022 had 10,825 births, while in March, there were 10,667.

The research also shows a reduction in motherhood among women aged 20 to 29.

The trend now in maternity wards is mothers between 35 and 44 years old, with an increase in numbers in this age group in IBGE data.
