Detran of Rio opens registration of new National Identity for new age group

Detran/RJ has extended the issuance of the new National Identity Card (CIN) to users up to 40 years of age, which has the CPF as the only identification number. The new document was implemented in Rio in January last year, is valid throughout the country, and aims to make fraud more difficult. The wallet is being implemented in stages. To date, 379,547 CINs have been issued in the State.

The first copy of the CIN is exempt from fees or payment of Duda. To request the new document, the citizen must present the original birth or marriage certificate and the CPF registration document. Anyone who does not have a CPF can register on the Federal Revenue website or at partner units such as Banco do Brasil, Caixa Econômica Federal, Post Office and Civil Registry Offices. Without presenting the CPF, the person will receive the old ID model.

The new identity has a QR Code that makes it possible to verify the authenticity of the document, as well as find out if it has been stolen, cloned or lost. The new document also has an international code used in passports, called MRZ, which facilitates the use of the identity as a travel document, being read at self-service terminals at Brazilian airports. The CIN also has graphic elements that make counterfeiting difficult.

The CIN is also available in digital format through the federal government’s ‘Gov.br’ application. This alternative can be downloaded after issuing the printed document. The user can download the application from the IOS or Android stores, register and access the document via cell phone. With this virtual document, advantages are offered to citizens and the public security system, such as more practicality since everyone carries a cell phone and can have the CIN in the palm of their hand at all times.
