The Court accepted a request from the Public Ministry of Paraná (MP-PR) and ordered a company based in Jandaia do Sul to stop selling and promoting medicines produced in an artisanal way without due authorization from the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa).

The decision was taken after investigations revealed that the company manufactured medicines without technical approval from Anvisa and resold them over the internet. The MP-PR was responsible for denouncing the company, which is managed by a couple.

Investigations conducted by the MP discovered that the medicines were produced clandestinely in the back of a uniform factory, where a false wall gave access to the place where the adulterated products were handled and packaged. During a search and seizure, medicines, supplements and herbal medicines, as well as advertising materials for the sale of these products, were found in the company’s warehouse. The inputs for the manufacture of illegal medicines were acquired through another company owned by the couple, which operated in the food distribution sector.

Furthermore, in the defendants’ residence, several firearms were found, including those for permitted and restricted use, particularly with equipment for manufacturing and reloading ammunition. The woman involved was arrested red-handed during the operation. The couple has several companies registered in their names and sold illegal products throughout the country.

The MP-PR alleged that clandestinely manufactured medicines were distributed throughout Brazil mainly through websites, putting public health and the lives of consumers at risk, while generating profit for criminals.

The precautionary decision of these “prevents those investigated from using the companies to acquire inputs and steal from the inspection, using the food company to purchase the inputs, which were encapsulated in a location at the back of the uniform company, in totally inappropriate conditions .These medicines were distributed across a large area of the national territory, through recognized websites, increasing profits and violating public health, in addition to putting the health of consumers at risk.”
