British Louis Tomlinson announced on his social networks that he will help victims of the rains in Rio Grande do Sul with his arrival in Brazil. With three shows scheduled in the country, the musician informed that there will be donation collection points and asked for fans to help support the cause. Furthermore, the former One Direction member also said that he himself made a donation to help the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

“I’m sending all my love to the thousands of people in Rio Grande do Sul who were affected by the historic floods that hit the region recently. I’m incredibly grateful to be able to visit and perform in this beautiful country, and it’s devastating to see how many lives have been so severely impacted. To help with the humanitarian campaign, I am making a donation to purchase emergency supplies that will be delivered to the affected regions. Additionally, working together with Move Concerts, we have created collection areas that will be set up at the entrances of all 3 of my shows. in Brazil, and I would like to invite anyone who attends over the next week to join us in this cause with anything they can donate”, says the singer’s note.

Tomlinson performs on May 8th at Farmasi Arena, in Rio de Janeiro; May 11th at Allianz Parque, in São Paulo; and at the Ligga Arena (CAP), in Curitiba, on May 12th. “Our shipping partner, Transhow, will be collecting all items donated at the shows and distributing them to the affected regions”, informed the singer on his social networks.

Also according to the British, non-perishable food, clothes in good condition or new, bedding, pillows, sheets, diapers, food, baby supplies, food for dogs, cats and other pets will be collected.

The number of fatalities due to rain in Rio Grande do Sul is 95, according to the latest bulletin from the state’s Civil Defense. There are still 128 missing people and it is estimated that the storm has affected at least 1.4 million people so far. According to the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite, he stated that there are 414 municipalities affected by the rains, a number four times greater than in the last catastrophe, in September 2023. In total, there are 66,434 people in shelters, 158,992 homeless, and 372 people injured rescued.

Other international celebrities in the cause

In addition to Tomlinson, other international artists also used their social networks with millions of followers to talk about the situation in Rio Grande do Sul and help the state. Beyoncé’s social organization, Beygood, provided a PIX key and a PayPal account to receive donations that will be used to recover the victims.

Actor Vincent Martella, from the series “Everybody Hates Chris”, shared a post by comedian Eduardo Gustavo Christ, known for his character Badin O Colono, with a channel for donations. Guns N’ Roses listed some figures from the tragedy and asked for donations through the Luz Alliance Emergency Fund, in partnership with the Brazil Foundation.

Katy Perry shared a post by Gisele Bündchen showing the municipality of Lajeado before and after the rains and asking for donations, along with a broken heart emoji. Actress Viola Davis published a video showing the consequences of the rain and said she was “praying for the people of RS”.
