Documentary on Disney+ shows behind the scenes of the Beatles’ latest album:

In January 1969, the Beatles entered a London studio to create another album. The process would be filmed and would become the film “Let It Be”, directed by Michael Lindsey-Hogg, which now arrives on Disney+ in a digitally remastered version using the same technology developed by director Peter Jackson for the “Get Back” series, released in 2021 and available on the same platform.

“Let It Be” documents the group’s rehearsals and recordings in January 1969 for what would become their twelfth and final studio album, “Let It Be.” The film also includes an unannounced show by the group on the roof of the Apple Records building (a record label created and maintained by the band), which would go down in history as the last public performance of the four together.

The initial idea for “Let It Be” was to accompany the broadcast of a band show. When plans for this show were abandoned, the project became a feature-length production, documenting the Beatles’ creation process. While the film doesn’t address the tension that existed within the group at the time, it does provide some glimpses into the dynamics that would lead to their breakup.

After the film’s release, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr won the Oscar for Best Original Score. Original footage from this film was later used in Peter Jackson’s 2021 documentary, “The Beatles: Get Back”, which retold the story of the Beatles at this point in their career and gave another meaning to “Let It Be” itself.
