A meeting this Tuesday (05/07) in Porto Alegre between technicians and managers from the State Department of Health and the Ministry of Health discussed how the SUS National Force will work in the State during the fight against the flood calamity. Initially, they must have flying teams, aeromedical services and care in field hospitals in RS, totaling 68 professionals.

Initially, there will be five flying teams. Each one is made up of two nurses and one doctor, totaling 15 professionals. The idea is that, under the command of the State Department of Health (SES), they can be sent to the most affected areas. These teams can, for example, assemble backpacks with medications and travel to these areas, spending the day there caring for more chronic cases or bedridden people who are isolated, and may even be accompanied by other volunteer health professionals.

The aeromedical service, to help patients by helicopter, should have 20 pairs. Each one is made up of a doctor and a nurse, who will be accompanied by the crew.

Part of the SUS National Force group will be made up of workers from the Conceição Hospital Group (GHC), in Porto Alegre. At this moment, a team is already at the field hospital set up in Canoas, with 13 professionals, working 24 hours a day, functioning in a role similar to an Emergency Care Unit (UPA).

This is the first team that will come to RS. There is a bank at the Ministry of Health with around 40 thousand accredited volunteers. And, based on the request for demand authorized by the Federal Government, it mobilizes. Therefore, the number of professionals can constantly vary with new arrivals and departures, through daily assessments.

SES volunteer registration

Last week, the State Department of Health (SES) opened a register of health professionals to form a pool of volunteers who may be invited to help municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul affected by climatic events and intense rains. Professionals who wish to work on a voluntary basis completed a registration form and, upon registration, authorized their data to be made available by the state secretariat to municipal administrations and health institutions in case there is a need to replace or expand the workforce.

Until this Tuesday, 139 of them had already been called to work in 10 cities: Canoas, Colinas, Muçum, Porto Alegre, Dona Francisca, Eldorado do Sul, São Leopoldo, Cachoeira do Sul and Restinga Seca. There is also a team from Itapema, Santa Catarina, which was willing to send a health team to assist the Lajeado region and neighboring cities (16th Regional Health Coordination). The list of professionals includes doctors, nurses, nursing technicians, psychologists, pharmacists and social workers.
