Bill 776/24 determines that the Ministry of Health defines, through ordinance, which vaccines are mandatory in Brazil. The text, under analysis in the Chamber of Deputies, inserts the rule into the Epidemiological Surveillance Law.

The project also changes the Child and Adolescent Statute (ECA) to make the vaccination of children mandatory in accordance with the Ministry of Health’s determinations. Today, the responsibility lies with health authorities.

According to deputy Adriana Ventura (Novo-SP), author of the proposal, current legislation does not address how vaccines are included in the National Immunization Plan (PNI) or what are the criteria for them to be classified as mandatory.

“To guarantee the effectiveness and uniform application of vaccines throughout the country, it is crucial to establish and harmonize the way in which these immunizers will be included and classified as mandatory in the PNI”, explains the deputy.

Next steps
The project is underway in conclusive character and will be analyzed by the Health committees; and Constitution and Justice and Citizenship.
