Pro-Palestinian protesters invade Columbia University building | World

Columbia University protesters broke windows on the Manhattan campus in the early hours of Tuesday (30). The action came hours after the university began suspending students who defied the deadline to leave a pro-Palestinian camp set up to protest the war in Gaza.

Protesters entered the Hamilton Hall academic building, breaking windows and doors. In the images, it is possible to see the invaders taking chairs up the stairs of the historic building.

This Monday (29), the meadow given by the college management for the group to leave the camp ended. In a kind of “ultimatum” to students, Columbia management threatened to immediately suspend anyone who did not disperse the demonstrations, which began on April 18 at the university and spread to other colleges in the United States. Over the weekend, the total number of people detained in protests across the US reached 700.

Pro-Palestinian protesters at Columbia have vowed to maintain their camp on the Manhattan campus until the university meets three demands: divestment from Israel, transparency in college finances, and amnesty for students and faculty punished for their participation in the protests.
