This occurred after the club earned around R$202 million from player sales in the middle window of last year, but spent around R$24 million on signings. In the same period, Fran Sánchez, who was popular with the fans, was fired due to disagreements with management. The situation also increased charges.
In the current European season, Valladolid – led by Paulo Pezzolano, ex-Cruzeiro – faced difficulties in the Spanish second division. The team came to be among the last placed in the competition, but managed to take off in the final stretch and fight for access to the elite. At the moment, they have four consecutive victories and are in second place. The first two placed move up, while 3rd to 6th will compete in the playoffs for another place in the main division.
