A 28-year-old man was arrested early this Monday evening (29) suspected of robbing an app driver in the Center of Betim, in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte. The criminal committed the crime during the temporary ‘outing’ period and ended up letting the stolen car fall into a bush while being chased by the police.
According to Lieutenant Trimolet, from the 33rd Battalion, the Military Police were called by members of the public who reported a robbery in the city center. The military set up a siege in the region and, shortly after, received information that the criminal was fleeing along BR-381.
Military personnel from the Special Group for Policing in Risk Areas (Gepar) Citrolândia carried out a siege in the Fernão Dias section and, subsequently, were informed that the vehicle was tracked a few kilometers away, in the Paquetá neighborhood, still in Betim.
Police officers traveled to the region and found the car in a bush on the side of a street, with the suspect disembarking and fleeing through the bush. The military disembarked and pursued the criminal on foot, subsequently arresting him.
According to the military, the suspect was on temporary leave and should return to the José Maria Alkimim Penitentiary, in Ribeirão das Neves, next Saturday (4). Furthermore, agents reported that, during the chase on foot, the suspect discarded a replica revolver used in the crime.
Alert
Lieutenant Trimolet, who responded to the incident, issued an alert to app driver users. According to the military, the thief ordered the ride on someone else’s app: ‘we do not recommend ordering rides on a third-party app and we also recommend that the driver not take the ride’.
The suspect was detained and taken to a Civil Police station. He will return to the prison system and runs the risk of losing the benefit of the temporary ‘out’.
