Mato Grosso do Sul has already registered 12 victims of severe acute respiratory syndromes aged up to 9 years
The InfoGripe bulletin from Fiocruz (Fundação Oswaldo Cruz), released this Thursday (25), highlights that RSV (respiratory syncytial virus), the main cause of bronchiolitis, is already responsible for more deaths among babies this year than covid-19 .
It is considered a comparison between severe acute respiratory syndromes that affect children up to 2 years of age in Brazil. Fiocruz did not disclose the data verified in each State.
The SES (State Health Department) bulletin, published a day earlier, also does not specify how many were caused by RSV or other agents, but adds 12 deaths already caused by respiratory syndromes in general among children up to 9 years old in Mato Grosso do South.
Four children under the age of 1 and eight who were between 1 and 9 years old died, according to the state survey related to severe acute respiratory syndromes.
In Brazil, according to Fiocruz, Covid-19 is still the biggest cause of mortality from these diseases in the elderly.
RSV – There is still no vaccine against syncytial virus available in the SUS (Unified Health System).
Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency), however, authorized the registration of the immunizer Abrysvo, from the pharmaceutical company Pfizer, in Brazil at the beginning of this month. She protects babies. To reach the SUS, it will depend on an evaluation by a commission from the Unified Health System.
Growth – Based on the analysis of previous epidemiological weeks, Fiocruz sees signs of a future increase in Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome cases in 23 states.
