BYD’s long-awaited midsize pickup truck appeared in China without camouflage. Shark Images (yes, that’s the likely name) confirm the front inspired by the Ford F-150. The similarity is evident with the headlights formed by two stacked rectangles outlined by LED DRL. The lights are still connected by a light bar crossing the underside of the hood.

The grille has the automaker’s name written in big letters, just like Ford does. At the rear, the vertical lights are also connected by a bar through the trunk lid, which has the BYD logo embossed. Information such as proportions, load capacity, bucket volume and equipment package were not revealed. The size should be similar to that of a Toyota Hilux or Ford Ranger.

The shot also shows the interior with emphasis on the rotating screen, digital panel and airplane-style keys on the center console. The version photographed has black lining with red details in the leather seams and in the trim on the frame of the cup holders.

Whether called Shark or not, the new BYD pickup truck will arrive in Brazil in a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) configuration, with external recharging. The set unites an engine 1.5 four-cylinder turbo and Miller cyclewhich alone yields about 140 hpto others two electric ones, one front and one reargenerating a combined power of almost 500 hp. The pickup is also considered to be manufactured in Camaçari (BA).

In addition to the plug-in hybrid version, the possible BYD Shark will gain a electric version. The Car News China website reports that, in this configuration, the pickup will be sold with a rear engine in entry-level versions and two engines (mounted one on each axle) in intermediate packages. This would not be in the plans for Brazil at the moment.
