Teacher is defendant in UK lawsuit
Teacher Rebecca Joynes, 30, is on trial this week in Manchester, England, for having become pregnant by a teenager while being investigated for sexual abuse against another minor.
The prosecutor in the case says that the teacher bought a designer belt and gave it to the teenager “1”, inviting him to go to her old apartment. There, they had sex twice. The boy confessed the relationship to two friends, which led to the beginning of the investigation.
Rebecca was suspended from the school where she taught math, even though she denied the abuse. She was arrested, but was released after paying bail and pledging not to have contact with anyone under the age of 18 without being accompanied by another adult.
However, during the police investigation, it was discovered that Rebecca had been in a relationship with another 15-year-old student for a long time. The case occurred, according to teenager “2”, during the period in which she was suspended and being investigated.
When the boy turned 16, they had “full” sexual intercourse, which led to her becoming pregnant.
“It was a shock because she told him she couldn’t get pregnant because she had polycystic ovary syndrome,” the prosecutor told the newspaper Daily Star
. Teenager “2” also accused the teacher of being jealous and controlling.
The trial will take place over the next few days.
