A simple photo of a plate of ceviche could have been the death sentence for Landy Párraga, model, businesswoman and former Miss Ecuador contestant, shot dead by hired killers.
Security cameras captured the actions of the assassins, who entered the restaurant where Landy had just had her octopus-based lunch and attacked her while she was standing and preparing to leave the premises of the city of Quevedo.
According to the Telegraph, the model helped her killers work by posting a photo of the dish on her Instagram stories, as the distinct appearance of the meal and the establishment’s logo gave away its exact location to the executioners.
Shortly after the post, Landy was surprised by the two men, who shot her and ran away. The model did not survive the injuries caused by the three shots received and died shortly afterwards.
Landy’s name was involved in an investigation into links between organized crime and members of the country’s government, being mentioned in the conversation between the late drug dealer Leandro Norero and his accountant. “If my wife finds out anything about her, I’m screwed,” said the late criminal, who said he spent US$300,000 to erase any evidence of the affair with the model.
Investigators also found photos of the Ecuadorian woman and evidence of the lavish gifts he gave her, including apartments and cars, on Norero’s phone, reports said. Norero was murdered in jail just six months after his arrest.
Although she was under investigation by the Attorney General’s Office, Landy was never prosecuted for any crime and never made any public comments about the case or her connection to Norero and his organization, the reports state. However, the leak of information about her affair with the drug trafficker would have motivated his widow to order her death.
