247 – Advisors to former US President Donald Trump are evaluating the possibility of imposing sanctions against countries that reduce the use of the US dollar in their commercial transactions.
According to Bloomberg sources, Trump’s team is developing a strategy to encourage BRICS countries to continue using the US dollar in international trade, if Trump is elected in the next elections.
CONTINUES AFTER AD
Trump aims to preserve US influence and understands the consequences of a global shift away from the dollar, while the Democratic administration of President Joe Biden has used the dollar as a key instrument of its foreign policy, confronting the BRICS countries, mainly Russia and China.
Bloomberg also mentions that the BRICS addressed the issue of de-dollarization during a summit held in August last year. The bloc has increased its global influence, especially after extending invitations to join the group to important oil-producing nations such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, as well as other countries. Currently, both Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates keep their currencies pegged to the US dollar.
