PIERRE, USA – The governor of South Dakota, Kristi Noema strong candidate to be part of the Republican party as vice of donald trump in the elections, describes in his new book that he shot and killed the family dog, Cricket, who was just 14 months old. The report caused reactions in the political world and criticism against the republican this Friday, the 26th.

She says she took Cricket pheasant hunting with the intention of disciplining her, but the dog would have been “beside herself with so much excitement” chasing the birds. On the way back to the farm, Noem stopped to talk to local residents when the dog escaped from the truck and killed some of the family’s chickens, she states in an excerpt from the book obtained by the The Guardian.

It was after this that she decided to kill Cricket, who she described as “untrainable”, “dangerous” and “more than useless” as a hunting dog. “I hated that dog,” she wrote in “No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward,” which will be published in the United States next month.

And Cricket wasn’t the only animal victimized by Kristi Noem that day. She also killed, with two shots, a goat on the farm that had no name and, according to her, was “nasty, evil” and smelled bad. On the first attempt, according to the report, the animal managed to jump and escaped. Noem then picked up another cartridge and fired once more.

Soon after, his daughter Kennedy arrived on the school bus, looked around in confusion and asked, “Hey, where’s Cricket?”

“I think if I were a better politician, I wouldn’t have told the story here”, she says, treating the death of the animals as a demonstration of her willingness to do anything, “difficult, confusing and ugly”, whether on her farm in North Dakota or in politics.

The governor took advantage of the repercussion of the story to promote the book and criticize the press. “We love animals, but difficult decisions like this happen all the time on a farm,” she wrote Friday on X, adding that her family recently had to “put down” three horses. And she went on to say that her book would have “more real, honest and politically INcorrect stories that will leave the media speechless”.

On the other hand, Joe Biden’s reelection campaign criticized: “Trump’s vice presidential candidate, Kristi Noem, brags about having shot her 14-month-old puppy.” And the Democratic National Committee said in a statement that passages from the book are “disturbing and horrific.”

“She killed a puppy because she was too lazy to train hunting dogs, not because he was a bad dog,” said Rick Wilson of the Lincoln Project, a conservative group that opposes Trump./AP and NY Times
