A Apple announced a series of new features in the iPad line this Tuesday, 7th, during the event Let Loose. The event, scheduled for 11 am, Brasília time, will be broadcast online via site of the company and the YouTube and shows new features in both iPads and Apple tablet accessories, such as the Apple Pencil, a smart pen compatible with the device. Follow the event here:

The first new product announced by Apple was the iPad Air. The device hits the market for the first time in two sizes: 11 and 13 inches – the larger screen is new to the line. And it has 4 colors: blue, pink, beige and gray.

The camera was repositioned to be placed in horizontal mode, as if it were a notebook. The tablet also got the M2 chip of the time, which guarantees 50% performance compared to the M1. The M2 is the same processor present in the company’s Macbooks launched in 2022. It is available in sizes 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB. It’s on sale in the US starting this Tuesday for US$600 (11 inches) and US$800 (13 inches). Prices for Brazil are not yet available.

iPad Pro is super thin and has a new panel

The company also launched a new line of iPad Pro, with smaller screen edges and, according to Apple, it is the thinnest product the brand has ever made. The device also has two sizes, 11 inches and 13 inches, just like the iPad Air, and comes in silver and gray.

The 11-inch version is 5.3mm thick, while the 13-inch model is 5.1mm – making it thinner than the iPod Nano.

The company changed the panel technology, using a technology called Tandem OLED, which uses two overlapping OLED panels to boost brightness. The technology can lead to a peak of up to 1,600 nits of brightness, making the colors and definition of images clearer and of higher quality. It is the first time that the company has adopted Oled panels on its tablets, a type of screen that the company calls Ultra Retina XDR.

The company also made a leap in the processing of the iPad Pro: from the M2 chip, the device now has the M4 processor, launched by Apple at the event. The M4 is Apple’s most advanced chip to date and uses second-generation 3-nanometer technology. It has 4 performance cores, 6 efficiency cores and 10 GPU cores.

The chip also has the neural engine, dedicated to processing AI activities, for example. According to Apple, the M4 can offer 4 times more efficiency than the M2 chip.

The rear camera remains 12 MP, in addition to the LiDAR depth radar and an adaptive flash. The front camera was moved to the side to be at the top in horizontal mode, as if it were a notebook camera. Apple also stated that the iPad Pro uses AI to identify and scan documents.

New keyboard and pen

A new Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro was also announced. With few changes, the device gained new keys to bring it closer to a Macbook keyboard.

The Apple Pencil now has a Pro version, with a sensor at the tip of the pen to change commands. According to the company, when you click on the tip of the device, a tactile response is emitted to indicate movement, similar to what happens with commands on AirPods.

The device also has a setting to be found by Find My, Apple’s object monitoring application.
