Today known as Blizzard Albany after several internal restructurings, the developer Vicarious Visions was responsible for several games including Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 It is Skylanders.

Previously highlighted by DK Vine and now with more details published by Did You Know Gaming, the previously Activision studio worked on a 3D game project for the franchise Donkey Kong – from Nintendo.

According to the findings, the project was a 3D game set on a large open island where the movement and flow of the characters were the main focus of the planning. Donkey Kong would be able to climb walls and swing on vines and another important mechanic was movement through horizontal and inclined vines. Additionally, Vicarious Visions was apparently planning to have DK wear banana peels as makeshift shoes while adventuring. The studio was planning its own original look for the DK character, with huge arms and small legs.

Vicarious Visions apparently began work on a prototype, which also featured some artwork from the team, around September 2015 and lasting just over six months. Only a few company employees were involved. No title had been decided on, but he was using the codename “Freedom” (Freedom in Portuguese).

The prototype featured a jungle-infested cityscape. Players started at the bottom of the city, running across the ground and performing certain moves, such as swinging and grinding vines, running along walls, and bouncing off objects. Ultimately you would look to increase speed and climb to higher areas.

Although Nintendo had shown interest in working with Vicarious Visions to continue this project, the cancellation came during the Brazilian autumn of 2016 by order of Activision itself after the company’s management changed the direction of its next releases in which the focus would be alternated. for more multiplayer games and fewer solo experiences.
