Even though the numbers for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown weren’t that encouraging, Ubisoft is doubling down on the franchise. According to Insider Gaming, the next title in the series is in production and will be released in early access on Steam later this year.

“The Rogue Prince of Persia” would be an adventure in style roguelitewith free updates planned to meet the feedback of the community as he leaves, and would be in charge of Evil Empire, the Dead Cells studio. The launch would mark Ubi’s first “Day One” title on Steam since 2019.

“It is understood that the game has been in development for the last four years and occurred thanks to a discussion between Evil Empire and Ubisoft at GDC around 2019, shortly after Evil Empire emerged. The game is expected to be heavily inspired by the art direction of Franco-Belgian comics”, says the page’s investigation.

It is worth remembering that the last game in the saga, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, is a reinvention of the franchise, a tribute to the series and a milestone. Developed by the Ubisoft Montpellier team, the game is a challenge to combine the soul of the franchise with new elements. On Metacritic, there was a lot of praise, with an average of 87 points from journalist reviews and 91 points among players.
