Research by Procon/MS (Executive Secretariat for Guidance and Consumer Protection), an institution linked to Sead (State Secretariat for Social Assistance and Human Rights), reveals that items in the basic food basket can vary by up to 159% in prices charged in supermarkets in Campo Grande.

Fourteen establishments were visited, between April 15th and 24th, with 28 products listed in the survey. Values, however, may have been changed.

When considering a one-kilo package of beans, consumers may be faced with prices between R$6.95 and R$11.90. Type 1 rice, weighing five kilos, ranged from R$21.90 to R$33.89. White cassava flour per kilo was found from R$6.95 to R$18.65.

Among hygiene and cleaning items, the survey found the greatest variation in a single product and brand. The toothpaste reached a 159.82% difference, with values between R$2.19 and R$5.69. It is followed by double-ply toilet paper and four units, with prices between R$3.75 and R$11.89. Even within the same brand, the variation reaches 131.73%.

“It is important to highlight that research can guide consumers when purchasing, but it also leads them to reflect on their own consumption habits in relation to brands and prices”, assesses the executive secretary of Procon/MS, Angelo Motti.

The complete survey of the items in the basic basket, hygiene and cleaning can be consulted on the Procon/MS website.
