Two medals guaranteed at the Montenegro Paralympic Open

Brazil has already secured at least two places on the podium at the Paralympic Table Tennis Open in Montenegro. This Wednesday (1), the first day of competition, six Brazilian table tennis players passed through the group stage and advanced to the knockouts. From this group, Lucas Arabian and Sophia Kelmer qualified for the semifinals and, in this way, guaranteed bronze in case of defeat.

Lucas Arabian secured a place in the semifinals of men’s class 5 after taking second place in his group, adding two wins and one defeat. Qualifying for a place in the final, the 14th placed player in the ranking will play against the German Valentin Baus, leader of the class ranking. The duel takes place at 5:45 am (Brasília time) this Thursday (2). In case of victory, he will play the final at 8:35 am.

The second guaranteed medal at the Montenegro Paralympic Open came in women’s class 8 with Sophia Kelmer. She qualified for the semifinals after closing the group stage undefeated, with two victories. The duel that will define the place in the decision is at 9:30 am. The Brazilian is still waiting for her opponent, who comes from the confrontation between Eva Kuts and Frenchwoman Lucie Hautiere.

Brazilians in the knockout stages

Israel Stroh and Paulo Salmin advanced to the knockout stages of men’s class 7. Paulo goes to the table to face Irishman Patrick Vaughan in the round of 16. Next, it will be Israel’s turn to play Daniil Odoevskiy in the quarterfinals.

After advancing in the group stage in class 8, Jean Mashki plays in the round of 16 against Spaniard Ricard Ruiz. At the same time, Lucas Carvalho will take action in the quarterfinals of class 9 against Belgian Laureans Devos.
