This Wednesday, Corinthians issued a note to confirm the surgery carried out by the Maycon midfielder. The player underwent the procedure after tearing the anterior cruciating ligament (ACL) in his right knee.
According to the statement, the midfielder “underwent ligament reconstruction surgery”, at Hospital Sírio Libanês, in São Paulo, held “by Dr. Caio D’Elia and his team“. He already has the help of Timão’s medical department to begin the recovery process, which should last until the end of the season, although the club has not confirmed the deadline.
Maycon was injured on April 17, when Corinthians was defeated by Juventude, in the second round of the Brazilian Championship. On that occasion, the midfielder entered the break and, 24 minutes into the second half, fell to the pitch in pain. He left the field of play and was replaced by Paulinho. Timão confirmed the injury the following day.
Physical problems returned to haunt the midfielder in this second spell at Parque São Jorge, which began in 2022. This was the fifth injury for Maycon, who dealt with muscle problems in the current season. He played in 13 matches this year, five with Mano Menezes and eight with António Oliveira.
The midfielder is on loan from Shakhtar Donetsk, from Ukraine, to Corinthians until the end of 2024. How did he bring the My Timonthe black and white club is not obliged to renew the loan with the Ukrainians, unless there is a contractual clause for injuries.
