Amanda Ribas details meeting with ‘stalker’ in Vegas who claimed she was his wife | combat

Amanda Ribas’ last stay in Las Vegas wasn’t just tense because of her confrontation with Rose Namajunas in the UFC. The Brazilian fighter, who ended up defeated by the American last month, was the victim of a supposedly Ukrainian “stalker”, who looked for her at her hotel and even inside the UFC Performance Institute. The story was reported in an exclusive interview with the “Ag. Fight“.

– I don’t remember his name exactly, but he was a bit of a crazy guy. First day of training I went to PI, I arrived at the hotel and fans are usually there for us to sign something, take a photo, but this guy was a little crazy. He said: “beautiful, beautiful”, shouting, shouting, and we went up to the room. That same day, the guy at reception called my room and said: ‘Amanda, Alex is here and wants to go up to his room’. But Alex is the name of my manager, so I said: “Hey, sensei here now?” Then he said a crazy surname, and I said “yeah, I don’t know it”. The guy at reception said he wanted to talk to Marcelo, so I asked my father if he knew any Alex, and my father said “I don’t know him”. I already found it a little strange.

According to the fighter, he told her that he met her the week of UFC 251, in Abu Dhabi, when Amanda Ribas fought Paige VanZant. Since then, he would have been in love with her. On social media, Amanda discovered that he had invented that he was married to her.

– The other day, when we arrived at the reception, the guy was waiting there, but he said he wanted to talk to me, and I said it wasn’t possible at the moment. He went and spoke to my father, gave him a letter, a bracelet and a teddy bear. So far, everything is normal, it just happens. I love receiving gifts. Then I read in the letter that it was written that he was in love with me as a man since 2020, that he met me in Abu Dhabi. So we went searching. On his social network it was written that I was his wife, that he lived in that country and was going to move to Varginha, there was a teddy bear photo of everyone in my family, ‘this is Marcelo’, ‘this is Arthur’ – which it’s my brother -, ‘this is Marcelly, this is I don’t know who, this is Amanda, my wife’. He had some really crazy business.

After the meeting at the hotel, Amanda Ribas came across the same citizen at the UFC Performance Institute, a controlled location. From then on, the Brazilian company began to rely on an exclusive security scheme.

– The other day this citizen entered the PI, I don’t know how, and was telling the people there that I was his wife (laughs). Then, Alex (Davis, his manager) found out about it before I did and then told me. So he informed the UFC and they left security with me 24 hours a day, so I could be better protected. Then they discovered that he is a fighter and couldn’t fight in an event as he had brought a sword to that event.

In the UFC since 2019, Amanda Ribas had four victories since her debut, but after that she began to alternate victories and defeats, between strawweight (up to 52.6kg) and flyweight (up to 57.2kg). In her last fight, she lost by decision to Namajunas. Regarding what happened outside the octagon, the Brazilian reacted with her usual good humor, but already aware of the risks.

– To finish off this week that I started out single, started dating, got engaged and got married, I also broke up. Then they researched and saw that he had posted on social media that he was traveling to another city, that we had separated, but that he wished all the luck in the world for me. That’s it. It was the most unexpected relationship I’ve ever had.

– Until then I was a fan, normal. I’m very good with these things, I love taking photos. I think it’s very rewarding when people follow the work. But there comes a point where the people around me have more malice than I do about it. Then Alex (businessman) said: “Amanda, are you serious. Yes, there will be 24-hour security with you, because there have been several cases of fans losing track.”
