The Federal Public Ministry (MPF) released this Thursday (9) a recommendation for an urgent operation to remove cattle raised illegally in the Jamanxim National Forest (Flona), in Novo Progresso, in the southwest of Pará.

The recommendation was forwarded to the president of ICMBio, the director of the Agricultural Defense Agency of the State of Pará (Adepará), the director general of the Federal Highway Police (PRF) and the minister of Justice and Public Security. O g1 requested a position from the authorities and is awaiting their response.

The MPF reported that non-compliance or the weak justification for not fully or partially complying could lead the Public Prosecutor’s Office to adopt legal measures.

Flona do Jamanxim is one of the most deforested Conservation Units in the country. Since its creation in 2006, an area equivalent to 115,000 football pitches has become illegal pasture in the forest, according to the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio).

According to data from ICMBio, there are around 100 thousand head of cattle in the Jamanxim Flona and in two other Flonas close to it (Crepori and Itaituba II). Approximately 85% of sales are from animals raised at Flona do Jamanxim.

The MPF recommended to ICMBio that structures for illegal livestock farming should be demolished, the products and instruments used should be seized, destroyed and, for at least six months, an inspection base should be maintained at Flona.

Adepará, the PRF and the National Security Force must support the operation, under the command of ICMBio, points out the recommendation.

Adepará must also allow ICMBio to access the Agricultural Integration System, assisting the institute’s technicians in detailing the information contained in the Animal Transit Guides (GTAs).

It was also recommended that Adepará support cattle vaccination and indicate to ICMBio, the agency’s tactical operational group to be assigned to the case and that will act directly in the cases of illegal producers who commit environmental crimes.

Adepará, according to the recommendation, must block all registrations, GTAs and authorizations for activities related to cattle breeding in areas embargoed by Flona; promote the handling and boarding of animals, organize their destination; stop issuing GTAs for embargoed areas; and act in the analysis, fines and fines of fraud cases.

The PRF must provide support in ensuring the safe transportation of the inspection team and the seized livestock, as well as support to ensure the trafficability of the roads that will be used.

The Public Ministry recommended that the Minister of Justice and Public Security authorize the use of the National Public Security Force to support the operation for a minimum period of 40 days, with the possibility of extending this period, if necessary.
