DF has an increase in sales volume for the fourth consecutive month

The volume of retail sales in the Federal District registered an increase of 1.9% in March 2024, according to the Monthly Commerce Survey (PMC), released by IBGE this week. It is the fourth consecutive month that the sector has indicated an increase. In the series, at national level, there has been stability in the last four months. Without seasonal adjustment, sales volume varied by 8.3% in the capital. Still according to the data, at a national level, the accumulated figure was 5.9%, compared to the same period in 2023.

According to the study, the accumulated result in the last 12 months registered an increase of 0.7%, compared to the previous 12 months. The analysis of extended retail trade includes, in addition to retail, the activities of vehicles, motorcycles, parts and pieces, construction materials and wholesale of food, beverages and tobacco products. Therefore, the volume of sales in March, in the federal capital, increased 1.4% compared to the month of February. Compared to March 2023, expanded retail changed by 5.3%.

Regarding the variation in nominal revenue from retail sales in the Federal District, the research recorded that in March there was an increase of 1.7% when compared to the previous month, in the seasonally adjusted series. When compared to March 2023, in the series without seasonal adjustment, there was an increase of 10.3%.

In March 2024, in the Federal District, according to data collected by PMC, six of the eight activities surveyed recorded increases in retail sales volume compared to March 2023. They showed positive variations: other articles for personal and domestic use (22.4%), continuing to rise for the second consecutive month and registering the biggest increase since May 2022; pharmaceutical, medical, orthopedic, perfumery and cosmetic articles (13.8%), continuing to rise since March 2023; furniture and household appliances (13.7%), which has been growing for the second consecutive month; hypermarkets, supermarkets, food products, beverages and tobacco (9.7%), which is on the rise for the fourth consecutive month; equipment and materials for office, IT and communication (6.9%), growing again after falling in the previous month; fabrics, clothing and footwear (2.8%), continuing to rise since September 2023.

Fuels and lubricants (-5.6%), continuing to fall since July 2023, as well as books, newspapers, magazines and stationery (-7.0%), continuing to fall for the third consecutive month, presented negative changes .
