The statue of Daniel Alves in Juazeiro, in the interior of Bahia, will be removed from the city. The state Public Prosecutor’s Office recommended the removal to the city hall, which stated this Thursday (25/4) that it would comply with the request.

The MP’s measure is supported by legislation that prohibits tributes to a living person made with public property. The city hall informed that it will remove the tribute to Daniel Alves, who was born and raised in the city, in the coming days. The deadline to comply with the recommendation is 30 days.

“The municipal administration sent to the MP a copy of Administrative Process No. 295/2019, Auction No. 137/2019 and the payment processes relating to the acquisition of the statue of Daniel Alves, which attest that it is a public asset acquired with public resources, being that it is not allowed to honor a living person with a public good”, says the request from public prosecutor Daniela Baqueiro.

The statue of Daniel Alves in Juazeiro was inaugurated in 2020. This year, the tribute to the man from Juazeiro was vandalized on some occasions.

Convicted in Spain of rape, Daniel Alves has been on provisional release for around a month.

Conviction of Daniel Alves

Daniel Alves was sentenced to four and a half years in prison. He was found guilty of the crime of rape, against a 24-year-old girl, in Barcelona, in December 2022.

However, shortly after the trial, he was granted parole upon payment of 1 million euros (R$5.6 million).

In addition to the money, the player will have to comply with a series of demands, such as appearing in court weekly, not leaving Spain and not approaching or making contact with the victim.
