In the late afternoon of last Wednesday, April 24th, surf teacher Jakson Santos, also known as Gaúcho, resident in the Indaiá neighborhood, in Bertioga, attacked surfer Luana Toscano de Castro in the sea with two punches. Postages. As the incident continued, which took place next to the São Lourenço Riviera Pier, already on the beach, Jakson damaged Luana’s board with a hammer. The reason would have been, according to the attacker himself stated on social media, an argument that started in the water for a trivial reason.

As a surf teacher at the Riviera Surf School, it was up to Jakson Santos to set an example and maintain peace at sea. He was immediately relieved of his duties.

Luana left the scene of the double assault accompanied by a friend and went to the Bertioga Police Station to register a police report. As the city does not have an IML, she was advised to go to the local Health Center, where the injury resulting from the two punches that hit the left side of her face was discovered. The following day, Thursday, she underwent the corpus delicti procedure at the Guarujá IML. Now, she is waiting for the police to take the necessary legal action so that she can resume her normal routine.

In an interview with Hardcore, Luana said that she is “still very scared, recovering physically and psychologically, but life has to go on. I will wait for legal means and for the police to follow up on the matter. I don’t feel safe knowing that he is my neighbor and had the ability to go get a sharp weapon, because a hammer is a weapon that, if it hits me in the head, will kill me.”

Luana, who is a special education teacher and works with people with disabilities, is 32 years old, married and has a son. She has been surfing “since I can remember” and has participated in national and international competitions, as well as teaching surfing lessons at a local school. All she wants is “to feel safe, I can’t live in fear, I’m a surfer and I want to go back to surfing at my beach”.

Surfing since she was a child, Luana has participated in national and international competitions, is also a surf teacher and knows the rules of etiquette in the waves well.

believes that the police should have taken immediate action in this regard, but that was not what happened. “I’m not feeling safe, I don’t know if he’s going to be around the corner with the hammer to hurt me again. The police do nothing. I called 911 when I came out of the water and asked for a vehicle, which didn’t show up. The police did not provide assistance. Neither type of police went to the scene to see what happened and if I was ok.”

The case had enormous repercussions on social media, with many female surfers showing solidarity with Luana, which gave her strength to continue her demand for justice. As she says, “I held it together as much as possible, I didn’t answer anyone, I was very scared yesterday and I didn’t know what to do, what to say. But several girls are attacked and when one appears and speaks, all the others start: ‘I’ve been attacked too, this has happened to me’. Realizing that her complaint had an even greater importance, Luana gathered strength to move forward in the search for justice.

A group called “Women of the North Coast of SP” published on social media a manifesto repudiating Jakson Santos’ cowardly attitude, providing unrestricted support to Luana. An excerpt from the statement says: “We are at Luana’s side, providing all our support and solidarity. We demand justice and concrete actions to ensure that such attacks do not happen again. The sea is a space for everyone and for everyone, and respect must be the basis of any interaction inside or outside it.”

The Riviera Surf School, where the attacker taught classes, and of which he was a member until the day of the incident, also published a note of rejection on Instagram. In the same, the announcement of his dismissal is made: “Due to the case of aggression that occurred last Wednesday, 24/04, the Riviera Surf School announces that it has dismissed physical education professional Jackson Santos, from its staff. employees and all related activities.”

Still on social media, Jakson published a video in which he admits that he attacked Luana, but tries to justify the unjustifiable by claiming that it was a case of self-defense. Hardcore sought to contact Jakson, but was unable to do so as he deactivated his Instagram account. The space is open if he wishes to give his version here. The question remains, how does he justify having gone to get a hammer to wait for Luana in the sand? In cases like this, jail is the right answer.
