The 399 municipalities in Paraná are already vaccinating the entire population from six months of age against the flu. The release from the Ministry of Health took place on May 2nd. Since then, the State Department of Health has been reinforcing and guiding city halls to encourage and promote actions to increase people’s adherence to the 26th National Campaign against Influenza. The doses are available in the 22 Health Regions of Paraná, which cover the entire territory of Paraná.

Sesa guides municipalities to create their own strategies, from holding vaccination D-Day, actively searching for unvaccinated people, vaccination in schools, vaccination beyond health units, checking vaccination records and intensifying vaccination in indigenous areas , between others. The mobilization is to increase vaccination coverage rates.

“The national campaign ends this month, so the more people we vaccinate, the more prepared we will be, which directly affects health services. Vaccination is the main strategy to avoid overloading care in hospitals and Basic Health Units. We need to guarantee this protection”, reinforced the Secretary of State for Health, Beto Preto.

Londrina (61,709), Maringá (59,010), Cascavel (36,586), Ponta Grossa (34,096), São Jose dos Pinhais (28,870) and Curitiba (28,727) are the municipalities that count the most doses applied, according to the national platform. Boa Esperança do Iguaçu (212), Nava Aliança do Ivaí (251) and Jardim Olinda (275) were the municipalities that vaccinated the least. City halls have 60 days to transmit and update the panel data.

Before May 2nd, the vaccine was only released to priority audiences, but due to low adherence and the arrival of winter, Sesa recommended expanding vaccination coverage, following the guidelines of the Ministry of Health. Since the change in audience target, 119,424 doses were applied, increasing the number of people from Paraná who have already received the flu vaccine to 1,167,125.

The campaign started on March 25th and will continue until the end of the month. The vaccine is free and has three types of virus strains combined: A (H1N1); A (H3N2) and B (B/Victoria lineage), according to guidance from the World Health Organization (WHO).
