Narrator and sports columnist Arivaldo Maia passed away this Tuesday morning (7). Born in Palmeira dos Índios, in the interior of Alagoas, aged 77. Of these, 60 were dedicated to Alagoas radio. Arivaldo died at home, in Maceió, after waking up and feeling unwell. The cause of death was not disclosed by the family.

Arivaldo Maia was considered the voice of sports journalism in Alagoas. His last narration was in 2023, in the Alagoano Championship final, when he followed the match between ASA and CRB, on Rádio Gazeta, where he worked for more than 50 years.

Arivaldo participated in international coverage such as the World Cup, Copa América, Qualifiers. The Classic of the Crowds, between CRB and CSA, was notable for its brilliant narrations.

“Broadcasting football is improvising. You know a repentista, of which we have many here in our region. The narrator is a repentista, without needing to write verses”, said Arivaldo in an interview with ge.

After leaving the microphones, he started writing for a blog, where he continued his career as a sports columnist until his death.

Arivaldo was considered commander of his hometown, in the Alagoas countryside. He leaves a wife and three children.
