After a long testimony this week, Textor met with senator Jorge Kajuru and other parliamentarians to present the report that, according to him, proves the manipulation of results in Brazilian football.
This Friday (26), the owner of SAF alvinegra will be tried for having invaded the pitch in the 4-3 defeat to Palmeiras, in the Brazilian Championship, in November last year, and for insults directed at the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues. In the current scenario, it is unlikely that the club will suffer any type of punishment for the accusations. What could happen is that the manager may be held responsible.
– This is corruption, this is theft. Please fine me, Ednaldo, but you need to resign tomorrow morning. That’s what needs to happen. This championship has become a joke. Nobody deserves this, these Palmeiras players don’t want to win like that, we don’t want to lose like that. There are five games in a row. Gentlemen, you played a good game, it’s not your fault, but this is corruption – said Textor after the defeat to Palmeiras.
The trial began last week, and will be followed by John Textor’s final sentence. The businessman was reported three times under article 243-F (offense to honor) and once under 258-B (invading a place designated for the refereeing team or the match venue).
As there were two or more infractions, the penalties are accumulated, which makes the situation even more complicated. If found guilty, the manager could be banned from Brazilian football. The banning time will be set during the court session, but it can last up to 360 days.
The owner of Botafogo was invited to testify to the Senate, as a witness, in a trial that is still ongoing, after making allegations that there was manipulation in Brazilian football in the years 2022 and 2023.
